There is a need to have diagnostic study of each society to know the existing status of available infrastructure , available technology , availability of hides and skins capability etc. Rs. 20.00 lacs is proposed for conducting diagnostic study @ Rs. 10000 for each society.
Under the special project SGSY It is proposed to cover 50 societies of tanning and 10 societies of leather article and footwear making. All the 60 societies of about 15 district will be covered in phase manner over a period of three years. The members who are in the category of BPL will be covered for technical & entrepreneurship training . There after they will be linked with production and marketing of their product. They will be imparted training in well reputed organisation like Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) , Chennai , Footwear Design and Development Institute.(FDDI) Noida. National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad , ( Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) , Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) etc. The trained members will trained other remaining members of the societies and thousands of other leather workers in unorganised sector also.
